Batman Man Arkham Knight Review
So I know that I am behind reviewing this game compared to everyone else who has already played and reviewed the DLC for this title. But I was still playing Elder Scrolls Online and its glitch riddled mess....but that's a story all on its own and we will leave that be for now lol. So Batman Arkham Knight Review! Lets address the things I liked first. The story in Arkham Knight is a really dark story for Batman as he is fighting to keep his own humanity against the Joker who is trying to take over his body via the ''Bad Blood'' from previous installment ''Arkham City''. While trying to save the city from Scarecrow and friends, you have to deal with the Joker every step of the way. I'm not going to lie, this was very interesting, and at times very distracting, but not to the point where you could not play the game, it was a great spin on things and I don't know if the game would have been as good without the Joker....even though he was dead and just living in your mind pretty much. Having Scarecrow as the final boss actually was better then I thought it was going to be, he played his part very well, and even though the last fight with him is just a let down(seriously it's just a cut scene), he was definitely the best choice for main threat here in Arkham Knight. The better part of the story has you fighting back and forth with Scarecrows main general; The Arkham Knight', who I'm not going to lie, I thought it was going to be Deathstroke the whole time and out of nowhere it was the old Robin that was tortured by Joker for months....thought he was dead. Arkham Knight, later to be known as the Red Hood, played his role to the T, he was in your face almost every step of the way and even saves your hide in the end via cut scene off course. The only part that I was let down about with the Arkham Knight was there was no actually hand to hand combat fight with him......I was really disappointed with this, guess they didn't want Batman beating on his former prodigy or something. Overall the story was really good, better then Arkham City and Asylum, but to me not as good as Origins...sorry that was the best story to me, get over it. The story has enough in it for you to want to play it again in the New Game +, just don't know if it will play well considering how hard the game is already! Seriously, this game is hard as hell for Batman game, it at times will have you pulling your hair out and even wondering how the hell you are suppose to complete a part in the story.
Now lets get to the bad....there a lot of that too. Lets start with the elephant in the room. The Batmobile. I know a lot of people loved the Batmobile in this title and to them it was the best thing in the whole game....but in reality, it takes away in the story and the combat as well. They used and abused the Batmobile in every way possible. You will literally be climbing walls and descending them to complete some missions. So if you are ever stuck in the story, you probably have to use the Batmobile for something. Some of the fights with the Batmobile are beyond hard as well. On the street mines mission, you get attacked by an onslaught of unmanned drone tanks and they will kick your ass all over Gotham. And the final defend GCPD mission with the Batmobile is ridiculous, 60 armed tanks! Really? Who thought this was a good idea? Just saying...this was stupid. The weapons on the Batmobile are pretty cool as well, they are not mind blowing like some people are making them out to be, but its fun to play with the different weapons on the tanks. Combat can get really dumb with the Batmobile too, if you are ever having a hard time defeating street thugs, call in the Batmobile and one shot them....or run them over....this was overkill for me, but guess some genius at Rocksteady thought it was funny. The Boss battles with the Batmobile were inventive to some point, one of them made me think of Halo and trying to escape the exploding Halo ring, but they were pretty good, no big bads here. The combat in some points was way too difficult. They would have you go up against sometimes 20+ goons, and all of them will either have weapons, electric hands, shields, or other weapons. They would literally over match you and leave it to chance for you to win. My advice is get your armor to max as fast as you can because you will die in combat...over an over again, get use to it. The mini bosses, or other crime lords in the city are ok, it feels like these were rushed really bad, some of them are just one fight battles with the Batmobile or one hit knockouts. They really could have drawn them out more and made the game a little more interesting in this part of the game but guess they felt the game had enough or something. And no KIller Croc?!? What the hell happened here? You go through the sewers plenty so you think you would have seen him at least once, but nope, nowhere to be found, DLC maybe I guess. You do see him in one cut scene in Batman's mind, but that does not count, sorry Rocksteady, you dropped the ball with his appearance too, he looks like shit. The challenge modes are pretty much gone and replaced with challenges that are no where near as much fun. I guess if you want to play challenge mode you can always go back to Origins or City because nothing worth mention here either. The DLC I have not played yet so I can not judge or rate, I have had that its good but short so as soon as I lay through it I will make a note of it in another short blog.
Overall the game was really good, the Dark Story was great, and they really strung everything together well. I had no glitches in my whole playthrough, and only had to look online to find out where to go a couple times.
Overall 8 out of 10
I would have gave it a better rating if there wasn't so much need for the Batmobile to complete parts of the story, the hand to hand combat fights were more equally matched, the side bosses had more time put into them, and if they would have adopted the challenge modes from Origins and City. But still, I would recommend if you have not played this title to get it and play through yourself. It was a good game and you will have a lot of fun playing Batman's Dark Story here. Hopefully they make some major updates for DLC, if not, it will fall out of your most played games really fast.
